I graduated from Seattle University with a double major in mathematics and computer science, and went on to earn a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Dartmouth College in 2017. I am currently an assistant professor who is responsible for teaching classes and doing research. I have taught students formally at the college level for both mathematics and computer science and tutored students at the college level for both mathematics and computer science.
While a graduate student at Dartmouth, I was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Teacher award. I have continued to strive to have a high-quality teaching experience for students in all of my classes. Dartmouth also requires all graduate students to study pedagogy in an intensive teaching seminar before permitting them to teach. I have continued to find different ways to connect with student during teaching by attending a workshop by The Academy of Inquiry-Based Learning on how to increase student engagement and performance in the classroom.
As a tutor, my goal is to have students understand the principles behind a problem, so that given a small variation of the problem they can find the solution though a logical process. Additionally in understanding the principles behind a problem, student then can decompose much harder problems into several smaller known problems and compete it quickly.
Mathematics and Computer Science both require a deep understand of logic and critical thinking and require more then just computation. The skills learned in these classes are applicable to many other disciplines.
Tutoring offered for: prealgebra, algebra, differential calculus, integral calculus, multivariate calculus, linear algebra, abstract algebra, topology, axiomatic geometry, combinatorics, graph theory, introduction to proofs, discrete mathematics, probability, statistics, introduction to computer science, data structures, algorithms, python, C++, rust, Java, and MATLAB.
